The options fall into rough tiers by invasiveness: non-invasive monopolar radiofrequency that heats through intact skin (such as Thermage Body or Xerf Body), radiofrequency microneedling that delivers energy through fine needles (such as Morpheus8 Body), and minimally invasive radiofrequency performed through a small incision (such as BodyTite).
These procedures work on the firmness and quality of the skin itself, and for mild-to-moderate laxity the change is gradual and comparatively subtle. They do not remove fat—that is the territory of fat-reduction treatments such as cryolipolysis or liposuction—and they cannot substitute for excisional surgery when a significant fold of redundant skin remains, as after major weight loss. Improvements in stretch marks or skin dimpling, if any, are usually partial and should not be the core expectation.
The shared principle is heating the dermis and the fibrous tissue beneath it to temperatures that trigger a repair response: heated collagen contracts immediately, and over the following months the body remodels the area with new collagen. The clearest candidate is an adult near a stable weight, with mild-to-moderate skin laxity, in good general health, and comfortable with a gradual, modest change. It is not for everyone. Less common complications include burns or blisters, pigment darkening or lightening, firm nodules under the skin, contour irregularities, and prolonged altered sensation; needle- and incision-based options add risks such as infection and seroma, and overheating can injure underlying tissue.
