Combination Brows

It is often suggested to people who find pure stroke work too sparse for their taste but find full shading too made-up. Where the strokes stop and the shading begins is a design choice, and a good technician will show you the plan drawn on your face before any pigment is used. Because two techniques are involved, the appointment usually runs longer than a single-technique brow.

As with other brow pigment services, a perfecting visit around six to eight weeks later is standard, and the two halves of the design may not fade at the same rate — fine strokes generally soften sooner than shaded areas, especially on oilier skin. Longevity varies by salon, pigment line, skin type and sun exposure, and periodic refreshes are part of the commitment.

After mapping and confirming the shape, the technician applies a topical numbing product and usually works the shading first, then adds the strokes on top so they stay crisp against the softer background. Some studios reverse that order; either way, the two elements are balanced by eye as the work progresses. Sensations range from a fine buzz to light scratching. Both parts look stronger for the first few days, then lift as the skin flakes and settles.
