Density Enhancement
Density enhancement is a cosmetic tattooing service in which fine pigment dots are placed on the scalp between the hairs that are already there. By reducing the contrast between pale scalp and darker hair, a thinning area looks less see-through in ordinary light. It adds no hair and does nothing about why the hair thinned — the effect is purely visual, and it works best when there is still a reasonable amount of existing hair for the dots to blend into.

Overview
The usual targets are diffuse thinning across the top, a part line that has widened, and thinning at the temples. Because the illusion depends on contrast, it tends to read best from normal conversational distance and under everyday lighting, and less convincingly under a bright overhead lamp or at very close range. People with a strong contrast between fair scalp and dark hair often notice the biggest visual difference, since that is exactly the gap the pigment narrows.
The effect is semi-permanent and softens over a few years, with the timeline varying by pigment line, skin type, sun exposure and aftercare. There is a real limit worth naming: on an area that is genuinely bare, there is no surrounding hair to blend with, and a full-coverage approach such as scalp micropigmentation is the more honest conversation. A studio that suggests that instead of selling you more dots is being straight with you.
How it works
The technician studies how your hair grows and falls, then mixes a pigment tone close to but usually a shade softer than your hair. After a numbing product is applied, dots are placed shallowly in the gaps between existing hairs, following the natural direction and density of growth so the pattern does not look mechanical. Work is spread over two or more sittings a week or more apart, because judging the effect properly requires seeing the healed color rather than the fresh one.
