Overview
Most express appointments run 15 to 25 minutes. The technician removes old polish, files the nails to shape, tidies the cuticle line, applies lotion briefly, and finishes with base coat, colour and top coat. What gets cut varies by salon and product line, but the soak, the exfoliating scrub and the longer massage are usually the first things to go.
It works best as maintenance between fuller services rather than as a replacement for them. If your nails are already in reasonable shape and you mainly want fresh colour, an express appointment covers it. If the cuticle area has been neglected for a while, or your hands feel dry and rough, the extra steps in a classic or spa manicure are exactly what you would be paying for.
How it works
The time is saved by dropping the water soak and the slower hands-on steps, not by rushing the ones that remain. Many salons use a waterless cuticle softener instead of a bowl, which shortens the appointment and has a side benefit: polish tends to sit better on a nail plate that has not just absorbed water. Drying is the part that cannot be compressed much, so quick-dry top coats are common in this tier.
