Gel-X Extensions
Gel-X extensions use pre-shaped, full-cover soft gel tips that are sized to each nail, bonded with gel adhesive and cured under a lamp. Because the tip already carries the shape and length, there is far less sculpting and filing than in a traditional extension service, and a full set is often finished in under two hours.

Overview
The tips come in shape and length families — short almond, medium coffin, long stiletto and so on — so you choose the silhouette before work begins. A set generally lasts two to three weeks, at which point most salons remove and rebuild rather than fill, since the tip covers the whole nail. Colour, French lines and art are applied on top exactly as they would be on a gel manicure.
Its selling point is speed and a smooth, uniform finish with minimal filing of the natural nail. It is a soak-off system, so removal is by soaking rather than grinding. Being soft gel, it flexes more than acrylic or hard gel, which many people find comfortable, though very long lengths take more care in daily life.
How it works
The technician sizes a tip to each nail, then lightly buffs and dehydrates the natural surface and applies a primer or bonding layer. Gel adhesive is spread inside the tip and onto the nail, the tip is pressed on at an angle, held in place and cured — often flash-cured first, then given a full cure. Once all ten are set, the length and shape are refined by filing, and colour and top coat follow. Removal means filing the surface, then wrapping the nails in acetone for roughly fifteen to twenty minutes.
