In the chair it is a short step, often five to ten minutes added to a manicure: the nail is cleaned, the first product is warmed onto the plate so it can settle in, cured, then the second, strengthening component goes on and is cured. Salons commonly recommend it as a short course over several appointments rather than a single application, and pricing varies by salon and product line.

What clients usually notice first is that the surface feels smoother and less flaky and that polish sits more evenly. Any change you could attribute to how the nail grows shows up slowly, since nails grow roughly three millimetres a month, and results vary from person to person. It is a maintenance step, not a fix for a specific problem.

The system is designed to be penetrating rather than film-forming. Warmth thins the first component so it can work into the porous upper layers of the nail plate; curing then sets it in place, and the second component adds a reinforcing layer above it. The intended effect is a plate whose layers hold together as one, so the free edge is less inclined to peel apart. Because it works inside the plate, it grows out with the nail instead of being soaked off, which is why salons apply it repeatedly.
