Overview
Appointments are usually 15 to 30 minutes and priced below the adult equivalent, often with an age limit somewhere around ten to twelve. Colour choice, glitter and nail stickers are typically the main event from the child's point of view. Salons differ on whether cuticles are touched at all — many skip cutting entirely for children, which is the more conservative approach.
It is a common birthday or special-occasion booking, and often done alongside a parent's appointment. Ask ahead about polish options if you would rather avoid strong solvent smells; some salons stock water-based or peel-off polishes marketed for children, which come off more easily and without acetone remover.
How it works
Everything stays on the surface: clipping the free edge, filing the corners smooth so they do not catch, a wash or brief soak, lotion, then polish if requested. Children's nails are thinner and grow faster than adults', so filing is light and short. Careful salons avoid cutting the cuticle in children altogether — that rim of skin is a natural seal, and there is no cosmetic reason to remove it at this age.
