The draw of a machine over a hand tool is control: pressure and speed are steadier, each pass is lighter, and the needle can build colour gradually instead of in one committed stroke. Many technicians describe the healed result as softer and more forgiving than hand-drawn strokes, which is why it is often suggested for skin that tends to blur fine lines.

A full service is usually two appointments — the shaping and colour session, then a perfecting visit around six to eight weeks later. How long it lasts varies by salon, pigment line, skin type and sun exposure, but a refresh in the one-to-three-year range is a common expectation. Like all brow pigment work, it changes appearance only; it has no effect on hair growth.

Your technician measures and pencils the shape first, checks it with you, and applies a topical numbing product. The machine then works over the area in repeated light passes, each one adding a little colour, with the front of the brow usually kept softer than the tail. The sensation is generally described as a fine buzzing or scratching rather than sharp pain. Colour reads strong for the first few days, then lifts as the surface flakes and settles.
