A typical session covers the face—often the cheeks, jawline, and neck—with the aim of a temporarily tighter, smoother feel and a mild glow. It is usually offered as part of a facial routine alongside cleansing and massage, and its role is closer to skincare maintenance than to a corrective procedure. Whether an establishment may offer this kind of care, and with what device, depends on local regulations and the individual salon.

It should not be confused with medical radiofrequency treatments such as Thermage, which operate at much higher energy levels under medical supervision, heat deeper layers of tissue, and aim to stimulate longer-term collagen remodeling. A salon-level RF facial cannot reproduce those effects. It will not correct pronounced sagging, remove wrinkles, or treat any skin disease; expectations should stay at the level of a pleasant, short-lived refresh.

Radiofrequency devices pass an alternating current through the skin, which generates heat as the tissue resists the current. Salon-level devices are designed to keep this heating gentle and superficial: the sensation should be a comfortable, spreading warmth rather than the intense deep heat of a medical treatment. Before the session the skin is cleansed and a conductive gel is applied; during it, the operator keeps the handpiece moving in slow, even strokes so that heat never builds up in one spot.
