Sculpted Nails
Sculpted nails are extensions built directly on a paper or metal form fitted under the free edge, with no plastic tip involved. The technician shapes the length, curve and thickness by hand in acrylic or hard gel, so the finished nail follows the natural curve of your own nail bed rather than a mass-produced shape.

Overview
Sculpting is the more bespoke of the two extension approaches. Because nothing is glued on, there is no seam to blend and the underside can be shaped as well, which many technicians feel gives a cleaner line and a more comfortable fit. It is the usual method for very long or unusual shapes, for nail beds that curve strongly, and for competition-style work. It takes longer and generally costs more than a tip set.
How it works
The natural nail is prepped as usual, then a form is fitted snugly under the free edge and aligned so the extension will grow straight out from the finger. Beads of acrylic — or layers of hard gel cured under a lamp — are placed to build the free edge first, then the apex and the area near the cuticle. Once the structure is set the form is removed, and the nail is filed from every angle, including the underside, before colour and finish.
