Thermage

Thermage is commonly discussed for tightening concerns on both the face and body: the cheeks and jawline, lines around the mouth and eyes (the eye area requires a dedicated eye tip), and lax skin on areas such as the abdomen, arms, and thighs. Whether a specific area is appropriate, and which treatment tip fits it, should be confirmed in consultation. It differs from ultrasound-based tightening such as focused ultrasound, which relies on a different energy type and heating pattern.

What it can offer is a mild-to-moderate degree of tightening and contour refinement, and the response varies from person to person depending on skin condition and collagen quality. It does not remove fat, restore lost volume, or lift significant sagging to the degree a surgical facelift can. For someone hoping for a dramatic change, the consultation should focus on whether other options—or a combined plan—would better match the goal.

The principle is monopolar radiofrequency: as current passes through tissue it generates heat, concentrated in the deep dermis and part of the subcutaneous layer, which contracts existing collagen and triggers months of new collagen remodeling. The treatment tip sprays coolant and vibrates at the same time to protect the skin surface and ease the heat sensation. Before treatment, the skin is cleansed, a positioning grid is printed on the area, and a grounding pad is placed on the body to complete the circuit; injected anesthesia is generally not required.
